What things in fiction have you where the writer intended for something in their work to be read as one thing but when you think about it, comes off as horrifying/hilarious/basically anything but what the writer intended?

For example, the writer intended for this ending to come off as heartwarming but comes off as horrifying instead. Or, say, they intended for this one scene to be horrifying but the way it's set up makes it hilarious instead.

i read in the visual novel canon thread about one game that had a scene where a girl gets pregnant and it's apparently intended to be heartwarming but the thing is

she's a dead teenager and they're in the afterlife, so since babies can't be born there she's stuck pregnant until she reincarnates

i still can't understand why they couldn't just reincarnate and then have that baby if the writer wanted to shoehorn her getting pregnant so badly

he'd still score waifu points and it wouldn't look anywhere near as dumb as it did in the actual ending

i don't think that's unintentional, i think a lot of people took the original books and movies too seriously when there were a lot of ridiculous or humorous moments

I like it when a story will settle the sexual tension early in the series and show us how the relationship plays out during the story instead. It's not as common as tsundere stuff but those animanga are out there.

the entirety of Simm!Master in Doctor Who, right down to the clap your hands if you believe style ending. I know it was supposed to be awesome and intense but it just came off as so ridiculous.

any canon where the trope "never say die" is in full effect- i.e. the characters aren't actually allowed to use the words kill, die, etc.- it can really dampen the emotional impact when they have to dance around saying that a dead character is, y'know, dead. or the death is censored so we're supposed to accept that this character walked away from [insert deadly scenario] and just... chose not to appear again for the rest of the series, i guess.

just yesterday i was reading a fanfic that was set up like a bittersweet reunion of people who regreted not hooking up when they were young and beautiful, and now they were finally grasping at their chances when they were old and slightly drunk, their bodies wearing down and broken by trauma and illness and the hard lives they'd lived

and the smut part used the word 'cunny' for vagina

Jesus christ on a platter what the fuck is wrong with everyone who reads this for intentional romantic enjoyment, pretty much everything in it made me squirm from how fucking lifetime movie horror-mode every moment was when Grey's in the scene.

There's that one ep of Criminal Minds where it turns out a sociopathic kid with a violent temper murdered his little brother, and there's a flashback to the day of the murder where the kid finds a smashed model plane on the ground and yells at the brother, "I told you not to touch it!"

It was a really sad episode at first and just like that it became a dark parody of the one from Arthur.
