¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

I'd like to play Sasha or August (waiting to see if Vallory would be doable, too), but I'm the "was never into Borderlands" anon from the vidya thread, so I assume I'd have a lot to get familiar with first.

i think as long as you made it clear you aren't totally canon familiar but backed it up with some wiki research you don't have to force yourself to play the other games if shooters aren't your thing!

The problem is the Borderlands wiki is pretty bare bones, even for stuff from the first game.

An LP, however, might be helpful.

Honestly, not only are the original games cheap these days, but the first playthroughs of all of them are actually pretty easy, even if you're not super into shooters. Aim Assist won't get you many sweet headshots, but at least you won't be missing.

To be frank, I'm surprised you found Tales from entertaining at all without prior knowledge of the franchise. There's so much stuff you literally won't get or understand without having at least some familiarity with them...

Hopefully AYRT has friends to play with, the games seem like they'd be really boring without co-op. They're designed for that after all.

More fun with co-op, yes, but not boring. The game is perfectly enjoyable as a single player.

another anon who hasn't played the original Borderlands here and I'm not sure why people wouldn't find Tales entertaining? Telltale has always done a good job of making their games fun even if you don't know the source material well.

Yes, but they also *constantly* reference shit from the game lore that has almost zero relevancy/impact without knowing the previous games. Like pretty much everything having to do with the Atlus corporation.

That still didn't impact how fun the game was for me. I know it'll be even better once I go back and play the other games, but it wasn't like I hit any part in Tales that absolutely required anyone to know these things and I felt there was enough dialogue to at least fill in the basic ideas of what this or that was.

/shrug good for you, I guess? that doesn't change the game was catered heavily towards people who had played the previous games, far moreso than Telltale's other adapted properties.

Uhh Atlas-related shit is like...Athena's entire arc in Pre-sequel.

So yeah, when you use characters from other games in the franchise on a game that was made from a pre-existing franchise, that's gonna happen.

... aren't you just proving their point?

maybe? it's not like memes or anything, tftbl is a direct continuation of the main storyline (it has the jack ai Nakayama made in pre-sequel and stuff) so its not really fair to compare it to the other telltale games imo.
