¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

if you app a character from episode 20, then at episode 25 they reveal significant details about that character's backstory, is it kosher to use that information in-game or should you canon update first?

no reason why you couldn't use it. it's backstory. they don't change as a character because of something that happened in their history. i have a char that's at an earlier canon point from where we learned some hardcore shit about their background. i use it still because it applies.

Why wouldn't it be kosher to use it when it happened before your canon point? Later points of canon can definitely add things that can help with playing from an earlier point. The only thing you lack from the earlier point is the knowledge of things that happened later and any development that happened later.

unless you've contradicted it in a serious way that would seriously effect your cr, then yeah, definitely use it. i've seen cases where it's been as simple as the reveal of a significant family member's existence (an ex or dead or long lost whatever) or the existence of a serious allergy.

but then other times it's something HUGE like a past sexual assault or that they're actually the villain, and suddenly it's like... oh wow i've been doing this wrong the whole time. oops. in which case i think it's fair to pretend some aspects of whatever happened don't exist if you don't want to rock your current cr.

retcon that shit in, yo. most games are cool with you retconning in new backstory information without having to canon update
