Rundown:
rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.
Rules:
Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

(Anonymous) 2015-07-22 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)i've had a character in a game for several months now. recently i've realized that i don't like the direction they're headed - i feel like in-game development can't justify the change, i'm losing their voice and sliding into ooc territory.
i want to fix that. i started canon-reviewing and i think i'm getting back a solid handle on the character, but my problem is how to proceed icly. i don't want to drop or retcon them, because they have months worth of cr and some development i do like, but i worry that fixing their previous ooc behavior will make them look inconsistent and all over the place.
what would you do?

(Anonymous) 2015-07-22 09:26 pm (UTC)(link)but mostly I'd try to just phase it in without making a big deal of it

(Anonymous) 2015-07-22 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)But seconding anon; if you can do it subtly, best to do it that way. If not subtly, see if you can somehow tie back the change into the character; maybe they did start changing that way and are realizing now that they don't really like it. I still wouldn't hammer it into every interaction, though; it could just be something they quietly realize on their own and start to correct.
If you're at a timepoint that allows it and aren't sure how to go about it still, I'd also consider canon-updating. You can keep the cr and part of the development, but also use the return to their canon setting to justify their mindset going back closer to their canon behavior.
