What nonfiction are you reading, anons?

I just finished 'Sleeping With the Enemy: Coco Chanel's Secret War', which was a book about Coco Chanel collaborating with the Nazis during WWII. it was pretty good, though not as juicy as I had hoped, and took way too long to actually get to WWII.

I'm probably gonna start on one of my five or so Lincoln assassination books that I have yet to read next, after I do a little bit of fun fiction reading first.

Recently finished "Railroaded: The Transcontinentals and the Making of Modern America," which was a fascinating study of the general corruption, incompetence, political maneuvering and popular strife involved in the construction of the transcontinental North American railroads.

It was a bit dry and a lot long, so I'm decompressing with some light modern fantasy at the moment, but if you're interested in the subject it's a great read.

Eat Pretty: a book about nutrition being superior to all beauty products. It has recipes and talks about chemical processes in the body when you eat shit food and also what foods contain what "beauty properties". Did you know beets have uv-protection properties?

Also just finished reading Bedouins of the Egyptian Wilderness, which was an anthropological study on bedouins from the 80s. It is a seriously fascinating book. The theories the bedouins have and their superstitions and even their gossip about other clans and tribes reads like it's straight out of fiction. I would highly recommend this book to anyone!!

'the gift of fear' by gavin de becker

good, but dark shit, considering the purpose is teaching you to trust your instincts

"Goodbye Natalie, Goodbye Splendour" by Marti Rulli. It's a book that deals with the actress Natalie Wood's death, and how terribly the case was handled and how her husband, Robert Wagner, basically got away with murder. Now that the case was re-opened she's writing another book I'm excited to delve into when it's released.

Sex With Kings. It's about the mistresses of kings, mostly French ones. It's an interesting read, funny at times, and while it talks about anecdotes and dubious accounts from gossip columns, it always says that's the source and take it with a grain of salt. Fun read and I got it mostly because I was intensely into French and English history for a time and mistresses were such a big deal in history.

Rereading Under The Banner of Heaven: A Story of Violent Faith by John Krakauer, which is about Mormon fundamentalism

Also slowly making my way through The Sexual History of London by I forget who, which is much more lighthearted despite all the rape and coerced prostitution.
