So I've been out of touch with the comics for the last 3-4 months. Has this whole Secret Wars thing been any good/had any decent highlights so far?

depends on what characters and creators you like honestly. most of it has been pretty meh in my opinion and I can sense some fatigue from fans with this continuing up until October. at this point i think people are just waiting for ANAD.

How's stuff going with the Guardians of the Galaxy, if you know offhand?

And I've only heard one or two things about ANAD and I'm REALLY not into it based off of that.

But then again, Marvel is just doing its own version of Flashpoint and the DCnU. Look how well that worked out for DC.

NA

From what I've seen, the Guardians are barely involved.

In this catastrophic cosmic event.

in the event, not much. the main event book for them is Guardians of Knowhere but it's written by Bendis so quality varies.

i almost never care about main event books because they're nothing more than badly written popcorn blockbusters, but secret wars has been ridiculous enough that i really enjoy it

but it might be harder to follow if you weren't reading hickman's avengers/new avengers, because it's very much a culmination of those storylines, and directly follows off of where they ended

I was reading Hickman's stuff up until issue- idk, 40/41 of Avengers? And whatever issue of New Avengers was released with that one. I generally love Hickman's stuff so I figure I'll be okay with the overarching plot once I manage to get myself back into things and try to play catch up.

you shouldn't be too far behind, then! avengers ended with #44, so you'll pretty much be reading the stuff directly setting up battleworld before getting into secret wars.

it's great though, battleword is pretty much doom's self-insert fic universe, and he's being exactly the primadonna about it you'd expect in the latest issue.
