i love networks. if the CR clicks they usually lead to the characters meeting up in person very quickly.

Maybe! I need to hunker down and canon review, and this woman is one I've never played before so I'd have to shake off all the nerves but... yes. If not near future then probably at least some future I hope to app her here.

Other potential applicants, please bring me more women, xeno and older 25+ gents. This is my dream.

When I was making icons back in the day, I'd make a special set for my own character, to keep them all matching. I prefer all of mine to be a single "set" that I use, but I never had any problems with letting other people use them. It kind of felt nice to see people using them, actually, because for one of the characters, there were always a ton of icons. Even years later, I see people using mine, and it's nice to see they're still going to good use.

This. My network posts lead to multiple face-to-face action or logs more often than not, because my character really does not sit around on the internet all day.

networks are for people who are lazy and mostly purely reactive hth

how is it easier when 50% of rpers forget to use their own characters' tags

slytherin and yes. i'm not really ambitious imo, but i'm pretty resourceful and subtle. i like to think i'm clever, i'm disgustingly loyal to people i care about, and i have a 'wait and see' attitude. i'll hang back and gather as much information as i can before i act or say anything. i'll also do pretty much anything dirty and underhanded to win a fight, and i'm good at being manipulative. i'm not proud of it, but i know i have that quality.

bonus fun, slytherin is apparently associated with water, and so is my zodiac sign.

i wish we knew what the american version of hogwarts was tho. i wonder if we're cool enough to have houses.

i think that my concern is not that people won't want to smut with me, but that most of the taken list is on the young side and he's going to be fairly uncomfortable sleeping with like. 17 year olds (sorry 17 year olds!!). I know there are aphro events and things but obviously I'd rather that not be the only way he gets to bone people because most of the game is on the younger side. I know there are definitely characters mid twenties and up, but i thought I'd toss this out there just to see what the general consensus was about older dudes. hopefully that makes sense!

The selection of mid 20s and later characters are very small (less than 20? maybe less than 15), and not all of them are particularly active (though some are). I'm sure the game would love to have you, but if you're avoiding the younger characters for smut you might have a tough time depending on your personal preferences and the orientation of the character.

just because it's crossing my reading list so I see when something's happening? I don't like tracking other people's posts because of the not-tags-to-me notif volume, and I'm more likely to be interested in specific CR than everything a character does

(Anonymous) 2015-07-21 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
okay

but with one dramabomb character and like 10 reactives, a prose only game will die and a network game will have a ton of fun shit happen

and most of my characters are fairly reactive 90% of the time, so I'm good with it

Not all games need them, but they're good for some things. I was in a game without a network and there were so damn many party/gathering posts because that was the best way to make an announcement. It got tiring after a while. And, especially in games with larger worldbuilds it makes it easier to make new CR so they can interact in person later even if your character isn't in their physical location.

I think people who whine about networks causing characters to become internet shut-ins who do nothing but go on the computer all day are projecting their hateboner for what they see as stereotypical socially awkward RPers onto a fictional situation. Circlejerk about how RPers are just shut-ins who can't even play their CHARACTERS interacting in person all you want, but ICly most network conversations wouldn't last much longer than a short chat or phone call. Just because a character tags a lot of network posts doesn't mean they're ~sitting inside on the computer just like a gross shut-in RPer~ all day. Is someone who makes a phone call every day a no-life shut-in loser? There are many hours in a day that aren't ICly played out. If they never log it's one thing but using the network =/= making your character an awkward internet nerd.

1. A, never had a problem with this.

2. It depends. A lot of my LA characters are non-powered, so if the game is dominated by extremely powerful anime characters or superheroes and fighting is a big part of the premise I'd probably decide not to app. In specifically animanga dominated games, they tend to have a ton of teens or very young adults, so if there were almost no older characters there I'd refrain from apping my 30+ year old LAs.

statistics anon - current gender & ages

(Anonymous) 2015-07-21 04:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I felt like procrastinating something for a bit so I ran through our current taken list for funsies.

32 women total
average age 21.5
most common age 17 (8 characters), followed by 18 (6 characters), followed by 20 (3 characters)
youngest 15
oldest 45
characters over 25 = 7 = 21.88% of female population

83 men total
average age 22.8
most common age 17 & 18 (10 & 10 characters), followed by 16 (8 characters), followed by 19 (7 characters)
youngest 13/14
oldest 42
characters over 25 = 25 = 30.12% of male population

http://pastebin.com/2vUv2GXk

Note:
Characters who have a huge discrepancy between their actual age and their appearance, I went with the "looks like" age. Same for "looks like" gender but that only applied for one character. You know who you are.
Characters that only had estimated ages I gave actual ages for the sake of being able to add up the numbers. If a character was stated to be "early 20s", I probably put 20, 21, 22 or 23, depending on their appearance. I just used my best judgement.

Other statistics:
8 characters I could not easily find their ages of by looking at their permissions or by scrolling through their journals, and had to scroll through the sexy tl;dr.
7 characters I could not find the ages of through either method and had to google.
2 character ages are a mystery not even google could solve, so I took a best guess based on their appearance.
2 permission links are out of date/broken in the taken list!
