a good chunk of the bad press is misinformation.

the my room/fire emblem amie feature doesn't actually let you do any groping like people claimed pre-release, it's limited to things like headpatting or cheek-caressing or nose-poking, even if you scroll down, it won't let you touch below the shoulder/collarbone area. a lot of the "suggestive" dialogue is mistranslated due to people taking the script and voice clips out of the actual context; past a few s-rank-exclusive lines, they're innocuous.

there's no "stripping" like some claimed. one of the accessory types you can make is a swimsuit for both guys and girls, that's it. it's not usable in battle, afaik.

the soleil/m!kamui support blew up because one poster made false claims (that soleil is a lesbian and m!kamui is trying to convert her to be straight due to her gayness being a weakness; she's bi, and kamui doesn't help her with intent to make her fall for him but just to try to help her stop fainting around really cute girls. one of her my room lines indicates she has problems fighting women, so it's related to that.) it's still a very badly handled line and the whole "putting a magical powder in a girl's drink" part can be reminiscent of date rape methods even if it's not the intent in context, but it's also likely to be changed in the localization.

two valid points i've seen are complaints about incest options (all siblings have s-rank supports with the kamui of the opposite gender; these are likely to be changed in the localization) and the way the same-sex marriage options are handled (only two options, both of which are version-exclusive; shara is implied to be tharja's pre-reincarnation self and while she's more stable than her, she's still a stalker, while zero is overall better received but some are still bothered by him because he's a sadist, mainly toward nobles, and his speech uses a lot of double entendres; marrying either one causes you to miss out on kanna and possibly eponine, though i've seen claims that there's some other benefit you get from marrying them).

some of the female character designs are fanservice-y (charlotte, camilla, nyx, orochi, arguably rinkah, ophelia and shara), but they're not much worse than previous fanservice-y designs in the series.

ugh i hope this means changing dialogue instead of just changing s-support to 'companion' and removing the option for you to have kids. esp considering that you aren't actually related to any of them. i know on the nohr route this will be more difficult because you were raised together as family but i wanna marry marx.

i wouldn't bet on the marriages with the siblings staying, though. sibling incest, even between not blood-related siblings, is a lot worse-received in the west, and the nintendo treehouse is handling fates' localization, who also toned down the romantic implications between ephraim/eirika in sacred stones. so i don't think this'll stay.

there's probably three options:

1. sibling supports stay, but are toned down and likely changed to partners like lucina/owain were in awakening
2. the s-rank support with the siblings is switched with an a+ one without a support conversation. this option probably requires help from intsys.
3. the s-rank support with the siblings is outright removed. this option probably requires help from intsys too.
4. the s-rank supports with the siblings remain romantic. this one is unlikely, since there's already been heavy backlash in the west and including sibling incest, even if they're not blood-related, could hurt nintendo's reputation (especially since they pushed them as actual family in the treehouse presentation during e3).

option 1 seems like the most likely, but i'm not sure how they'll handle the kids in that case. maybe they'd have the generic parent conversation for the kids reference adoption in their case, since iirc the generic parent/child supports are stored in separate files for each possible generic parent.

"It will be changed in localization" doesn't change the fact that the designers made an active decision to include that content in the first place, and yes it is completely fucking fair to criticize them for it. FE was not like this prior to Awakening. You may be desensitized to this content, and good for fucking you I guess, but people shouldn't just shrug and be okay with it if it bothers them.
