anon it was always played for laughs yes, but it was always planned to be shown as abusive.

out of the parents bro has the least screen time and was doing his own things, unlike Mom, Dad, and Grandpa Harley who helped and ultimately aided the kids. Dave always was wierd when the topic of Bro was breached and none of the kids truely knew what to think of him.

Hell dave was always uninterested when the kids bitched about their parents.
