Don't bother

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

I thought cosplay ask blogs were the worst thing.

Then I went to a panel at a con for a fandom I liked that turned out to be a full on in-character cosplay ask panel. And the worst part was, only about 15 people showed up for it in a BIG room so I felt too guilty to leave. I sat there for an hour and I'd say half of it was awkward silence.

years ago, i went to one of these that was amazing, but you need to set it up right.

first: small room. it was packed, standing room only.

big time fandom of the time: it was hetalia, shut up don't judge me

make it 18+: all bets are off

bonus: costumes really well done, a solid core of enthusiastic hosts with no shame

i had a blast and so did everyone else in the room. i was sorry when it was over. i still have faith in them as a concept, just like the 18+ dating game, but you've got to get the set up right.

a friend of mine used to reblog some kind of nightvale cosplay ask blog that used gifs of this kid in makeup trying to be both 'creepy' and 'cute'

the secondhand embarrassment was unbearable.

WTNV is notorious for the cosplay ask blogs. It's the reason I have 'cosplay' blacklisted. So so bad.

Which makes me feel guilty because I'm a cosplayer. But I don't...use it for RP.

that's actually the fandom that immediately came to mind

because those things are legion and it's awful

someone who runs a cosplay ask blog of a character i play was even selling prints of pictures of themselves in cosplay. they were all pinup girl-type poses, no less.

i mean tbf they were at least professionally-done pictures, but who the hell would buy something like that?

yeah their saving grace was that at least the cosplay was good and the pictures were fairly well-done. it would have been worse if it was a case of "watch me pose ~seductively~ wearing closet cosplay on my unmade bed in front of my anime wallscrolls in my messy bedroom".

still, i have to wonder about the thought process behind "i'm going to pay someone to take pinup girl shots of me in cosplay and sell them for $40 a pop what a fantastic idea"! i guess they thought there must have been a market for it or they wouldn't have bothered.
