I've been thinking of picking him up and I'd really appreciate just some basic tips. It'd be really helpful and very appreciated.

I can't think of much basic advice but there is one pitfall you might want to be aware of avoiding. I've seen him played as really self-centered before, but Hinata is really amazed and fired up by everyone around him constantly. He does a lot of admiring and appreciating everyone else's strengths, and not only is that an important character trait for him, it also makes for a more interesting RP experience for your partners if he's focusing on what's great about the other person.
