Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Not in the game (yet), but something I've noticed that confuses me.

People who play here, why do characters who are already in game make threads in the TDM that are locked to other characters already in game? I've noticed several in game characters making top levels in general, and I don't always understand why. This isn't a practice I've seen much before (it might happen in CDC, too?) so I'd like to hear from people with an inside perspective.

The tdms are a part of game plot and count as ac.

As a player in the game here is what I have to say:

I make an open toplevel in the TDM because it's a game canon log, and I'd like to play out my character acknowledging these events have happened and it has affected them. This also allows any newbies who might share a mutual interest in tagging, but don't make a toplevel themselves and tag out instead, to tag me.

However why people already in game make toplevels completely closed off to other characters already in game confuses me too. That could have easily been posted in a separate closed log dated for when the events of the TDM happens. I understand having one or two prompts specifically for plotted out threads, but if you're not even going to have one open prompt I don't understand the point.

also player in the game confirming TDM count as game canon and go towards activity check. TDMs basically can act as an easy open log "catch up" kind of post for characters in the game, and easy springboard for new CR. it's well after part 2 of last month's event and well before part 1 of next month's event, so it's not constricted by plot elements.

though there may be plot elements sprinkled around to think about (I wonder if Arnold will have more to play this month? especially with talks of the network being taken over. I'm super excited by that!)

i've only very very rarely seen players make only a closed top-level to a TDM w/o any other open prompts, and I think the last time I saw that the person in question mentioned on plurk they wanted to purposefully wait until the TDM had slowed down and no one was looking at it anymore and it was still in that limbo period before the event part 1 went up. i guess some people are log shy or it's a matter of convenience?

I think the person should be less log shy especially if our mod posted events are going to be hitting captcha like the event pt.1 did. I saw Claudia do only closed prompt place holders on the TDM which could have easily been moved to a log of their own to lessen the strain on the TDM which may end up hitting captcha as well since these are counted as game canon and people will want to finish their threads instead of dropping them.

Commenting to say I agree that Claudia's player should have put their closed prompts in a log. That's what the log comm is for and to be honest, posting on a game TDM but not allowing newbies to tag you when the whole point of the TDM is to encourage newbies, sends a really unfavorable impression.

This doesn't speak for everyone who does this, but I was considering it because after the CR meme there are some people I want to start threads with on the TDM instead of waiting for the first event. It would be the kind of thread where we want CR but aren't sure on where to start. So since the TDM counts, I can use the prompts there to get it rolling!

I understand how it can look strange but think of the TDM as more of a mini event than purely for testing purposes. Hope that makes sense!
