from an only tangentially legal anon (i work in a law firm, don't practice law), do you have any cash to spare? could you get a free consultation from an attorney, bring the letter and proof that you have, and pending what they recommend, either respond yourself or possibly hire them for something like writing a letter back if needed?

i have contacted a local law firm that offers free advice, i'm waiting for them to get in touch with me in order to be able to see if i can get a free consultation and maybe let them look over the letter i have drafted. i don't have much money to spare as i'm between jobs currently, the joy of temp work. i have looked in to free legal aid but defamation is one type of case that doesn't qualify for it though idk if that's the same for defending against an accusation of defamation as accusing someone.
