... did they do that without warning the players?

because i'm all for surprises but considering that game's pace and how much it relies on planning out ideas i feel like that is going to kill the game in five seconds flat

Nah, there were warnings that this could happen like from the very beginning, and we knew one of the NPCs was planning something with Jupiter (aka the big god supercomputer that runs everything)

It's definitely a surprise that it's happening NOW but it wasn't unexpected.

did the mods warn that it was going to happen right now, in this month's plot? no.

but the game info and faq has said from the beginning that the caste system could flip, so it's a ymmv situation. i'm happy with it because i apped into the game hoping that a lot of dynamic and unexpected stuff could happen to shake up mine and my character's plans. for players that wanted a more consistent, SoL experience, there might be feathers ruffled. i expect us to shed a few of the more recent applicants since they might not have been ready for a big change.

It was implied early on in the game and in all the FAQ and game info that everything that happens is player-influenced and that the castes flipping was definitely something that could happen. It sucks for anyone who joined the game just to play out SoL, but that comes with the territory when you join a plot-heavy game.
