You're all idiots except for me

oh my god, i feel so disrespected and i'm surprised this place doesn't have more bad reviews

i sent an email with some questions to this local doggy daycare (what's the minimum age, i have a puppy. what specific vaccines do you require, your site just says "must be vaccinated." do you have any prohibited breeds? (not a question for me but a friend has a pit) can i see the place first? and some other general question about the place) and they never answered me

so i sent them another email apologizing if i sent it twice, maybe my first one didn't get through. and they told me sorry, we don't want your dog there

i'm not even exaggerating but this is extremely rude and sketchy right??

i'm not a dog owner so i don't know what the norm is for places like that, but if the questions you asked are standard and these are things you both need to know and should know as the owner, them both not answering it and declining your dog based on a singular email full of question does sound kind of unappealing.

that's hella unprofessional, but maybe theyre just full up or something?

(Anonymous) 2015-05-23 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
there are better ways of saying that though

like "sorry, we're all full up but we wouldn't mind boarding your dog in the future"

even if you're full up now, those are the kind of questions you want to answer politely, because you'll probably want more business later.

Had a friend who used to work at a kennel and she had to leave the position because of how much they mistreated the dogs. If they won't let you see how the set up looks in the back, do not trust them with your dog.

i'd like to hear their side of the story first tbh.

here's the email i sent because their website was either vague or didn't mention the info i wanted to know:

"Hi there! I'm interested in having you guys sit for my dog but I'd like to ask some questions first.

Is there a minimum age for dogs there? My puppy is nearly 6 months old and about to be neutered.

Your website mentions that you require dogs to be vaccinated, but which ones do you require? I plan on getting him rabies and the like but I want to make sure I get everything he needs that you require so we don't run into trouble when I bring him in.

Do you have any prohibited breeds? (that's all i asked, no "my friend is also interested in boarding but she has a pit and wanted me to ask")

Would it be possible for me to see the place before I bring my dog in? I don't mind being loved on by other dogs when I visit!

Do you separate dogs by size? Or are puppies grouped together? Just wondering since my pup likes to annoy older dogs with all his energy.

Do you have a temperament test for dogs? I know other places have them and wanted to know if you guys do too. (asking because i don't want my baby near aggressive dogs)

Thanks for your time and have a nice weekend!" (sent the email last friday, waited until yesterday, then sent the second one)

i don't think i asked anything out of line... maybe i'm annoying when i go into detail?

it's my first dog so maybe i asked one or two questions that were obvious?

(Anonymous) 2015-05-23 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
my only guess is that maybe they don't want puppies that young? but you'd think they'd just say "sorry we don't take puppies."

either that or they are opposed to their clients having standards.

that's

weird

what do the bad reviews say?

(Anonymous) 2015-05-23 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
just one review with someone saying they had to pay more than they were told with extra fees and they felt like the place was scamming them

like the reviewer said the place said their dog needed their nails trimmed so they just did it and charged them

i assumed it was one bad experience until i was told my dog wasn't welcome

Kennel worker here. If they don't answer your questions or let you see the facilities, don't board your pets there. I love when owners ask in advance instead of assuming, and anyone who treats you or your animals like burdens or inconveniences shouldn't be taking care of them anyway.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-23 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
seriously

i thought i was kind of annoying but also responsible for asking in advance? i'm going on a trip in a month and i didn't want to go in at the last minute and have them tell me my dog couldn't go in for some reason or whatever

sucks to know my local dog daycare is so unwelcoming and possibly sketchy

Nothing annoying about making sure of everything in advance! It's sensible. And if the answer to "Can I see the place ahead of time" is anything except "Yes, of course", stay the hell away. A decent boarding facility will let you see their facilities to assure you they're a decent boarding facility.

DA is 100% right. It honestly makes my day when people ask about how we care for their pets or want to see where they'll be sleeping, and it's a huge help to get a call in advance about whether or not we take pitbulls or if they can bring the extra-fluffy pet bed from home for their old cat, etc. Owners who care are the best, and good luck finding a decent place in your area!

i am biased because i used to do this, but i'd never take my dog to a boarding service, i'd always seek out a local to dog sit instead. they're more likely to actually care about your dog and its specific needs, and they also tend to need the money!
