she did

in the books it was ramsay and a different character but they got married in the show, and he forced theon to watch

what was even the point

according to an interview with the writers

it was to make sansa feel bad for theon

yep.

that's... godawful and doesn't answer the actual question, i think.

SA

"Cogman added that the scene is also “an important turning point” for Sansa. “She’s seen Theon and hated him and thinks he killed her brothers and betrayed them but she’s very conflicted by what she’s seeing there,” he said"

lmao.

i'm done with this show. seriously done.

tbh, theon's my favorite character what with finding his arc really interesting even though it's horrific and over-the-top, and this just... friggin' annoys me.

since when was it even a little important for anyone but the audience to feel bad for theon?

ayrt

(Anonymous) 2015-05-18 03:40 pm (UTC)(link)
i actually really like theon too but exactly. i feel like theon is more interesting when he doesn't have any pity from anyone and most of his redemption is internal and he doesn't really benefit from it all. that's what makes it so good. i know that's harder on a tv show but i feel like they could have made it work.

theon JOINS THEM for oral in the books, so he actually they did think if him a little, i guess? it's sansa the one that got the worse of it

To make book fans super pressed about it.

I've been enjoying the anal fury pouring all over my timeline.

the book elitists make me laugh too but this was just

I wouldn't really consider myself a book elitist. I get that most of the time changes are made for logistical and budget reasons but this was just... It really seemed to undermine Sansa's story as well as just doubling down on the show being full of unnecessary rape.

Re: tw for rape jic

(Anonymous) 2015-05-18 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
I get the anal fury, but they wouldn't be whinging even half as hard if it had been Jeyne Poole, just because ~that's how the books are~.

Re: tw for rape jic

(Anonymous) 2015-05-18 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
idk, most people i know find the plot pretty gross overall. i just feel like it was grosser to act like this storyline was so important that they had to put sansa in it. when no it's actually a gross storyline where poor jeyne is tortured and putting sansa in there doesn't do anything for it and just undermines her development

Re: tw for rape jic

(Anonymous) 2015-05-18 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
da, but it's not really just that - like an anon above said, it's that cramming sansa into jeyne's spot kind of undermine's sansa's character arc. i'm going to assume that reactions wouldn't be quite this bad if it they did this with a less established character than sansa.

Re: tw for rape jic

(Anonymous) 2015-05-18 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
doubtful. the fact that they cut a crapton of storylines from the books that actually featured women with autonomy (arianne, asha) and kept in the single worst storyline that would make sense to be cut (we get ramsay is a fucker already!) is just.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-18 06:18 am (UTC)(link)
yeah but we have to see lots of rape. because it's ~realistic~ for the time period.

says the show with dragons.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-18 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Excuse me, but what part of a popular female character being brutally raped is hilarious to you?

I don't care for the so called "book elitists" or those who are fans of the show if they see nothing wrong in the over usage of rape in this series. Whether it be Sansa Stark or Jelyne Poole who gets raped, I simply do not condone a writer ( a male one at that) over usage of sexual trauma to gain readers or get ratings. It's fucking sickening.

I believe GRRM is a complete asshole and his entire series is nothing more than a glorified rape and snuff film. With that being said, I do believe that audiences of this show need to stop supporting his bullshit and let it frizzle out.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-19 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
You know, when you say 'with that being said', you should usually follow that up with something that contradicts what you were saying earlier. It's a way of setting aside a point you are conceding but feel is unimportant.

it's awfully big and complicated to be just a "glorified rape and snuff film", and I say that as someone whose only knowledge of it is through fandom osmosis

but the show writers definitely fucked up with this one

Re: tw for rape jic

(Anonymous) 2015-05-18 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
no, actually. i'm a fan of the books who hated that part.

i don't fucking see why it needed to be kept, and with sansa.

also, if you find it hilarious that people are pissed about a graphic rape scene, you're an asshole, anon.

Re: tw for rape jic

(Anonymous) 2015-05-20 04:29 pm (UTC)(link)
i agree with all this except that rape scene was not graphic. definitely unpleasant and not okay or necessary, not condoning it at all. but it wasn't graphic. the girl with the dragon tattoo or the last house on the left, that's graphic.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-20 04:38 pm (UTC)(link)
i was spoiled for it by wg and rpanons and i went into the episode expecting something really fucking heinous. not that it was sunshine and rainbows or anything, but there was no nudity and no actual showing of it. it doesn't make it better, but i wouldn't call that a graphic rape scene at all.

(Anonymous) 2015-05-20 11:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Like the anon above says, it doesn't make it better but there's literally nothing to see. People are reaching when they call it graphic.
