You're all idiots except for me

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

yeah, i also had to be responsible for a lot pretty early on, so i've have some issues relating to people offline as well, but not as many because the people i encounter have more varied backgrounds, i guess. meanwhile, fandom is extremely homogeous for all that it likes to pretend it isn't, but whenever certain subjects come up, you can tell exactly what demographic we're primarily working with here, and it's incredibly alienating sometimes

well, yeah

duh fandom is going to attract mostly middle-class people with a lot of disposable time and income

that's kind of the barrier to entry for fandom

i think fandom is more varied than you think. the thing is, not many people talk about it as you can see by all the answers in this thread. there's also the fact that loudest people that represent fandom (to call it something) are the ones you don't have anything in common with because... well, they have the time to spend fooling around in social networks. it's common that people that have lots of hard days arrive home and just want to watch some corny movie and not think about work again, or go directly to tags.
