rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

correlation doesn't equal causation.

tumblr is a site with a mostly female userbase, at least on the fandom side of things. the whole trash thing originated on tumblr and isn't really used anywhere else. if you look at male tumblr users in fandom, there are totally guys calling themselves trash for liking senran kagura or neptunia or whatever.

and off tumblr, while that specific term isn't used, there are plenty of forums where guys talk about how they enjoy 'shitty' (their own word) pulpy sci-fi, or how they love Metal Gear Solid because its plot 'makes no fucking sense,' or whatever.

instead of this insane sexism thing, it's pretty blatantly a way of getting people to get off your back about liking something shitty. you know it's bad. it's something you enjoy anyway, even though you know it's trash: you're trash. it clearly isn't some sort of serious self put-down, just a jokey way of acknowledging the faults with something you love.

why are you people so obsessed with this?

when will people stop thinking that being ott self-deprecating and shameful doesn't make you look like you're aware of the fault of something, it just makes you look neurotic

protip: there is nothing people can't find fault with, so if you think you need to be self-deprecating for liking something not perfect it makes you insufferable
