how can you tell if a bum is a scammer? legit question

sometimes you can't tell, which is why they're great scammers

usually it's easier if you actually live in the city cos you get used to seeing the same bums hanging around on the regular, being bums and/or crazy motherfuckers (which is sad, but some of the best conversations i've had with strangers have been with crazy motherfucker bums) so you can tell which are legit and which are bored assholes trying to get one over on nice people

granted, where i live, most people don't indulge any panhandlers. they'll either ignore them or chase them off, depending

basically, there's no real way to tell without either sounding like a douchebag or insensitive so either you're all in and give your change to someone who MIGHT be a bum and just hinge on the validity of their word, or you're all out and don't give shit to anyone

There was one notorious homeless man in my neighbourhood that would pose on the sidewalk as if he'd fallen out of a wheel chair... I literally saw him tip the wheel chair and lay down on the ground. Also my friend saw a normal bum from our area in a close by neighbourhood getting into a bmw.

Some are really rich and literally panhandle for a living but most people on the streets aren't scammers so I continue my gift card giving. There's one girl a bit older than me that is definitely an addict and I try to give her a gift card once a month. I don't want to support her habit but I still have empathy for her because I don't know her story and want her to eat.
