MAD MAX

just assume there will be spoilers for Fury Road in this thread.

Yeah yeah, whatever, MRAs were mad, but setting their butthurt baby tantrums aside, the film on its own merits makes Age of Ultron almost embarrassing in hindsight. It was that good.

Have to disagree. I thought both of them were bland, utterly lacking character development, overhyped big long action scenes, short on writing and long on fX. I was highly disappointed.

well I mean. Isn't that what the original Mad Max was, too? Seems like a canon that's always focused more on action and effects than plot and character.

"utterly lacking character development" confirmed for either not watching the film or the sort of viewer that needs to be told everything and is utterly incapable of reading what's shown without dialog or exposition.

or wanting more than one long action scene and thinking there was room for a lot more than what they did. but you keep trucking with the butthurt that somebody disagrees with your opinion.

but you said it was utterly lacking in character development, which is entirely untrue, or did you just fall asleep during every scene Nux was in? Like that one wasn't even subtle. He goes from fanatic Joe worshiper like the other Warboys and then decides he wants to find his own destiny/hope. They were beating you over the fucking head with it.

If you find the frenetic pace of the movie tiring, that's one thing, but if you seriously think there was no character development, then you literally didn't watch the fucking movie.

it's not a matter of opinion. you're objectively wrong if you think it had no character development. if you didn't like the character development or thought it was done poorly, that's a criticism worth discussing, but if you think it just wasn't there, then you are basically holding up a sign that says "I didn't see this movie, I'm just making assumptions based on its genre"

Seriously.

Nux (especially), Furiosa, and even Max had shifts by the end of the movie. Even Cheedo the Fragile had character development. Even The Dag showed promise of starting a new lifestyle when she met up with granny (I'mma just call her granny) at the ex-Green Place. Like not every character has to do a 180 from their original appearance in a two hour movie, but they did pretty damn well.

It's one thing to complain about poor development if you think they didn't show it well, but it's an actual fact there were multiple characters that had development throughout the movie. wth

the dumb names are kind of a series staple at this point. Goose, Toecutter, Johnny the Boy, Lord Humongus, Papa Gallo, Aunty Entity, Master Blaster

Capable? Toast? Cheedo? Rictus Erectus? Furiosa's clan are called the Vulvalini, ffs.

The older movies are full of stupid names too. Stupid names is just a Mad Max thing.

I'm actually embarrass for the criticism I'm seeing in this thread... do you people somehow have no idea what the MM franchise is about? Did you see the trailers at all? Why were you expecting a masterpiece? People are praising it so highly because it's wild, carefree, stupid fun and yet it managed to break away from so many cliches at the same time. It managed to be a "boys movie" with the central heroes being women and yet it was not an agenda-filled anti-male movie. If anything it managed to do this while making religious commentary.

Oh. And look at the fucking poster. In the ones where it's not just Max standing as a silhouette Furiosa is either in front of him as the central focus or given just as much poster space.

Small things like that. This movie is equal rights as fuck and it celebrates women in a way that isn't corny or tryhard. It is utterly fantastic and honestly a very bold choice.
