You're all idiots except for me

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Daily life in England

I joined an AU game set in England, but I'm painfully American and want to make sure I get all of the little details right.

I find that novels set in modern England by British authors are a great way to fill in the little flavor details. Recently I've been reading the Rivers of London series (Ben Aaronovitch) and the Midnight Mayor/Magicals Anonymous series (Kate Griffin).

They're both fantasy, but modern fantasy with plenty of everyday-life stuff in between garbage golems trying to eat the protagonists or elves serving black pudding for breakfast.

england... Where? London? The arse end of Yorkshire? Essex?

General things I can think of: look up Bank Holidays and their dates. Understand what a cheeky nandos is and why the price of freddos matters. Except transport to suck ass.

Something more specific would be very helpful because there's a huge assortment of different kinds of people and ways of life in England depending on who you are (class/ethnicity, etc) and where you are (rural/urban, north/south)
