Please please please don't make her perfect.

Colette gets a lot of flack for being and ~precious princess~ character and the fair maiden and the damsel in distress and her relationships with the other characters don't really help that. In ways, she's even written as a "prize" for Lloyd and it's kind of gross and you want to avoid just doing those sorts of things and trying for that kind of CR.

Colette has problems. She's clumsy and a bit air headed but very strong willed. She tries hard. I think the biggest thing about Colette is that she tries. She wants to make the world a better place and if doing that means she has to die well... she'll die. It's a big, kind of gross trope in JRPGs with the sacrificial lamb thing going on but you have to play passed that. Just because she's a weak girl doesn't mean she can't do things.

Think of her after Lloyd and crew bring her out of her angel... thing in the second arc, when she gets her feelings and stuff back. She's trying harder than ever to do what is right and not just follow "what I have to do" blindly anymore. She sees that she was wrong for trusting Remiel and the angels and the prophets so blindly. Colette is a girl who is LEARNING how to live. She's sixteen. She has a crush on a boy. Despite being a Chosen she has all these other things she wants to do and has to do to become a better person. Think about how Zelos basically fucks off on all his Chosen stuff and doesn't want to do it all those things because he's a foil to Colette's way of thinking about it. She wants to do this for the world while he doesn't care anymore or at least tries hard not to care. They're very similar in those ways.

Colette wants to be her own person and wants to be loved and wants to live more than anything. Lloyd teaches her how to do a lot of things but remember not to make her a helpless victim. She's an angel (kind of) she has some of the most powerful spells in the game. Every time she casts Grand Cross and you hear how threatening her voice gets: that's Colette. She can do things and she can live and it's just getting to that point that is her struggle. She fights a lot of inward demons when it comes to being a Chosen and being a young girl and being abandoned by the teachings she trusted all her life.

Remember that she's gone through losing her emotions and physical feelings, almost dying multiple times, being abused and kidnapped, and body horror alongside all of the normal things a sixteen year old girl has to go through on a daily basis. Remember that she is not just her crush on Lloyd and that she leans on all of the characters for support. Remember her trust in Raine and her grown friendship with Sheena. She was jealous of Sheena at first, she even gets negative points with Lloyd if Lloyd is nice to Sheena (wtf, male focused writing is so gross lol) but she tries her damnedest to be her friend anyway to the point of it confusing Sheena.

Colette is no fair maiden. Remember her struggles and her faults and you should be like 100% better than almost every other Colette on this site.

Aaahhh, thank you so much anon! I really appreciate all of this. I always feared roleplaying Colette because of the mere fact of her *~*~*incorruptable pureness*~*~* and people on this site judge that heavily and this advice that you've given me reminds me that, yes, she is just a sixteen year old girl so yes, she is prone to jealousy to sheena(with Lloyd) but also those turmoils she's gone through says a lot about Colette as well.
