You're all idiots except for me

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

PERSON WITH OCD

(Anonymous) 2015-05-15 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
Professionally diagnosed. I also have depression and anxiety, but I figured OCD would be a better topic.

I'm also a Psychology major, so feel free to ask questions about mental health in general or whatever tickles your fancy.

i guess the obligatory... what are some rituals of yours, if you feel comfortable talking about them? what do you "feel like" they're safeguarding against?

about when did it emerge, if you're comfortable talking about that, too?

No problem! I've had tendencies toward OCD when I was very young, since a couple of relatives of mine displayed those tendencies. It just kinda rubbed off on me. As I became more stressed, depressed, and anxious, I started developing my own "rituals." Mostly just decluttering to the point it's distressing and where I could end up with literally nothing. I still do it, but I'm working on getting help for that.

I think it helps me cope with the intrusive thoughts and all those nasty feelings I get. It's very cleansing and it makes me feel good. It's not the traditional picture of OCD, though I am very finicky with numbers and I have a huge obsession with small numbers and even numbers.
