The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

for some places it's nbd, like places with no caps or problems for coming late to the party. but for games with things like a reserve or app cap, it seems very unfair to exclude just because you couldn't be awake at 4/5/6am to app.

maybe there could be some compromise with places with a cap? i'm not sure how that would work, but i know it chafes my butt too.

like snowblind for example. i looked, it seemed interesting, but i'm not going to bother test driving or writing an app because the reserves will likely fill up when there's no possible way for me to get involved.

the only thing i can think of is having different app phases, so to speak. so, if you had a cap of 50, you could have 5 different periods where 10 apps can be submitted. e.g. 10 at 12am GMT, 10 at 6am GMT, etc.

but that would be pretty complicated and require mods to be able to open/close apps at those times.

yeah, that sounds like it would work, but would be way too much work for the mods. and i don't want to make it more complex for any mod team when they're already putting in a lot of work, they shouldn't have to bend over backwards just to accommodate me.

i've put in a request on the snowblind faq to maybe move to a bit earlier since the game hasn't opened yet so it might not be too complicated to do so. but if the answer's a no, then that's fine too since it's the mod's prerogative to do it whenever's easiest for them.

i don't really think a staggered app cap would work, it might garner complaints of favouritism anyway, since it would seem like europe=anons were getting first shot at any character etc.

yeah, it's why i can't imagine it ever working. the last thing a game needs is more work for the mods. another option might be to change the time the apps open each round - February opens at 5am GMT, April at 5pm GMT or something. but that just means that waiting to app takes longer and someone would definitely complain about the character they wanted to app being apped by someone else during a round they weren't awake for.

i feel for mods, so much. rpers are assholes.

it would still be more work for the mods, but what if there was someone specifically assigned to posting apps for people who couldn't be around at the time? they wouldn't have anything at all to do with the rest of the app process, they could post apps in the order they receive them, maybe along with the reason the person apping couldn't do it (just vaguely)

idk. it would still bring complaints of favoritism but i can't think of anything that wouldn't tbh. we get those even with the systems we have now.

fwiw, not all popular games do est as a base time. each's has always been gmt since it's the head mod's timezone, so apps/reserves open in the evening across north america.

Evening is a easier than 4-5 am (for most people) regardless of time-zone.

And it is literally impossible to make it so apps open up in the evening in every timezone ever, so suck it the fuck up and deal.
