You're all idiots except for me

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Can anyone explain to me why most Japanese BL games tend to be 18+? Do all-ages BL games just not sell well in the Japanese market which is why it's mostly 18+ games or is there another reason why?

Not that I have anything against 18+ games (I really liked Luckydog1 and am interested in trying out Shingakkou), but this is something I've been curious about for a while tbh.

if they have sexual content, why wouldn't they be 18+?

Not asking why games with sexual content are 18+ games, whoops. My question is why most Japanese game devs go out of their way to include sexual content so that the game is rated 18+. Whereas in Otome stuff, non-18+ games tend to be more abundant than 18+ games in there.

Sorry for not being clear!

i see! in that case, i don't think i can give a solid answer for that. hopefully someone else can. it might be as you said though, that certain games with certain ratings just won't sell well. from what i've seen, japan's demographic and what sells there is very different compared to a non-japanese standard (as is their fandom culture in general).

For the same reason most BL manga and LNs are 18+? Fujos like their smut. Otome stuff is targeted at a younger audience.

* a younger audience than BL, I mean
