You're all idiots except for me

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

I pretty much agree completely with this. I liked both of her series, tbh, though LKH has a really shitty habit of writing specific types of guys? Like, if you look at the Gentry and Blake series, you can pretty much find the same type of guy in each book. Asher is Sholto, Gale is Jason, so on and so on. But at least the Gentry series, you go in knowing what it's going to be like. It doesn't really pretend to be anything more than a bunch of fairies fucking. Anita pissed me off because it started out so good. There was plot, interesting characters, banter, she had two really great careers. There was this huge motley of characters you could like. Then it started to become less about Anita Blake the animator/marshal and more about Anita Blake the overpowered sex-power copying Mary Sue and I just lost all interest in it. The plot got lost behind how many men Anita could fuck while still suffocating in her own self loathing and 'I'm a whore everyone thinks I'm a whore my college bf dumped me wah wah' and you can't go back from that.

Best place to stop is after Obsidian Butterfly. That was when the series went from an actual series to a porno in disguise.

Yeah, I never bothered with the Gentry series because I didn't really want a rehash. A better quality writer can sometimes pull it off (looking at you Eddings) but for the most part I was okay just rolling around in one literal trash bin. But maaaaaan, the AB world was interesting enough my brother was just as interested in them, too, we'd get hyped up like the Harry Potter fans every time a new one would go up? And then ... (heavy sigh) literally everything after obsidian butterfly, yeah. :( Suddenly you could sum up the actual plot parts into less than a chapter and basically everything else was Anita literally wandering from sex scene to sex scene, meh. The absolute final straw for me though was actually reading about how deeply batshit and up her own ass LKH is, though -- realizing that beyond her being an awkward self-insert, Micah and Richard are also straight-up expies for her ex and current husband made basically everything deeply uncomfortable even if I had an interest in terrible repetitive porn.

Pour one out for what could have been, I guess. And quietly wonder what it is about urban fantasy that seems to attract the astral wife/complete nutter authors, haha.
