Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Potential player here (had no time to app in april but might do next round), and I wonder how monster choices are made? I know you're asked to choose if it fits/conflicts with the character's personality, but reading the bestiary not all monsters have specific personality traits. Vampires are arrogant, gargoyles are proud, goblins are mischevous asshole etc. But monstes like werebear, merpeson, naga, harpy, they don't have a certain personality type. So how do you decide if someone's a naga?

Basically I'm curious about monster personalities.

The mods decide, we don't.

Oh, I know that! I just thought maybe there's something I'm missing, since some monsters are pretty obvious and others aren't.

The monster picking process is kept secret, so none of us players can give any insight on how traits stack up.

From what I can tell, the mods have some kind of list that helps them determine what traits match up to what monsters.

some are obviously a joke

i'm pretty sure gamzee got a nymph because anons here joked about how awesome it'd be if he turned into a giant pot leaf

not that i'm complaining mind you it's hilarious and he's hilarious

Or Hiccup turning into a Night Fury. He doesn't have any gargoyle personality traits really but how could he NOT be a gargoyle?

Sometimes we get a bunch of ties for a character

I like to go over personalities and wikis and see if there's a particular monster that's extra fitting / unfitting with canon

that'd explain why they seem to take characters' powers and things in canon into account even though the faq says they don't

this makes me really glad i opted out of the most obvious choice for my character, because it's only obvious based on in-canon motifs and not personality. i ended up with a monster actually suited for personality instead.

sucks for characters from series with shitty wikis

As someone playing a character whose series has a shitty wiki, yeah. Yeah it does suck.
