Vincent Nightray | Pandora Hearts

Thinking about picking this asshole up again, but in a game that doesn't have a cast. Any tips on his voice (playing up the creeper part but keeping in mind he's a "sociable" person who is at least okay at playing the role of adopted noble son) and how to properly motivate him in a setting or a thread without Gil?

... I've never seen any Vincent player who had trouble playing up the creeper part, TBQH. If anything, I'd recommend that you try to play him as a normal sociable gentleman... who happens to have visceral self-loathing reactions to specific triggers and takes an obsessive interest in particular kinds of people! At least towards the earlier parts of the series, Vincent makes a pretense of being normal and keeping his creeping under wraps. Undermining that risks turning him into a cardboard yandere.

As for Gil... IMO it would depend on the game? If it's one of those games where the character's world has been destroyed and everything in it!!, he might have an actual breakdown, since Gil is the reason he carries on with anything. Having that destroyed would probably wreck him. But if it's just a matter of being separated, I think it's worth remembering that he actually doesn't seek Gil out that much in the manga himself. His major motivation is to give Gil a world free of him. So, depending on whether characters in the game know that they'll go back to the exact point in the timeline that they left, it could be either freeing or frustrating for him.

Key to motivating Vincent, I think, is that he really needs to keep some control over his situation. He hates being used unless he can use them back, and/or not having all the strings to pull. You could probably go a long way towards motivating him to build a network on his spite alone. Just make some long-term goals for him, then undercut them with his childish spite and occasional dramatics.
