I saw a post somewhere where the DW admin explain why they can't really do an icon only upgrade system. It all really makes sense. But I wonder if there's a way to have a smaller paid account package? One that offers some of the paid account features and more than 15 but less than 100 icons for a cheaper price.

$35 is just more than a lot of people pay for a LJ account and many hesitate to move here because the cost is high with no middle ground option.

I'd be paying the same amount for 100 icons here as I would at LJ. I don't personally have an issue with it. But I know many people who are turned off coming over to DW because the option is to either pay $35 or nothing if they want more than the standard. At LJ, there's a middle ground; you can pay $20 for a year and get 35 icons. I know a lot of people who do this because, like the above person says, not everyone wants 100 icons.

Again, not personally complaining here because I like how DW is as is. I'm just wondering if there's an alternative option that might be considered for those who don't want to pay that much since that's been the #1 reason for hesitation that I've heard.

...well it's not like it's $35 or nothing. I don't have that kind of money right now, so I spent $6 on two months. Which is actually better than two months paid + 70 icon addon at LJ.

Yeah, I totally get that. I understand why it'd be difficult to have add on packages for icons. I'm just wondering if it would be possible for a smaller version of the paid account (not just an icon package). Even if it's $20, it'd be more manageable than $35. LJ offers 35 icons for $20 (+ other features). It's something a lot of people do as a middle ground if they don't want 100 icons, but want more than 15.

If it's not possible, that's understandable. I'm only putting this up because it's the only suggestion I can think of for this site, and I know a lot of people whose primary turn off from moving to DW is the cost. (I'm personally not part of this demographic, but I can understand where they're coming from.)

You can still try directing the suggestion to the maintainers though. Over here we're all users.

I probably will! But since the top thread was asking what things should be suggestions to the admin, I was throwing this out here as a possible suggestion.
