Claire Redfield | Resident Evil

i want to play her after the events of code veronica, but should i watch a walkthrough of darkside chronicles, too? are there any points in DSC that contradict CV's canon?

There's quite a bit in Darkside that contradicts. For example, Claire doesn't encounter Wesker (hell, no one encounters Wesker until the end). Quite a few events are different, and an entire section of the military training facility was changed.

It's also worth considering that Darkside Chronicles is Leon telling the events of Resident Evil 2 and Code Veronica to Krauser, so it's entirely possible that Leon either changed what he was told (to make it sound cooler to Krauser or something), or wasn't told all of the actual events in Code Veronica.

Ah, that's true--I hadn't thought about the change in perspective. Do you think there's anything helpful I can glean from DSC in terms of characterization, or should I stick to RE2/CV canon so I don't get my wires crossed?

I'm not sure if there's anything extra characterization wise. Claire seemed like typical Claire aside from the plot changes.

The main difference in DSC is that Claire stays with Leon and Steve throughout the entirety of their respective storylines, rather than splitting up like in the originals. Claire's characterization is consistent with the older games, but the personalities of other characters such as Steve were noticeably altered, in addition to some other major changes mentioned by the above anon.

However, watching a walkthrough of DSC could still be worth your time. Because Claire is with her partners the whole time, a lot more talking happens, which provides extra insight into her interests and temperament as well as just the general way she speaks.

For further reference, I also suggest watching RE: Degeneration, if you haven't yet.
