The Defectives

Okay so I was talking about this (http://rpanons.dreamwidth.org/565.html?thread=1214261#cmt1214261) before in another thread. Essentially a defective CR that is mostly benevolent has recreated all these people from Earth's historical records (but in actuality, it is retrieving them from fictional sources by mistake). Simple enough premise. Somewhat jamjar-y game, crazy and silly NPC in charge, and so on. Maybe add some forced 'family' living situations. Now here's a twist.

What if the AI manufactures these people with a defect? Now in most games you have your experiments/curses/whatever that temporarily can alter your character, but never for very long. What if we had a game where the premise is that people arrive with these defects and have them long term (or even permanently). They might be 'created' in a body too young or old, the wrong gender, with their memories erased, with their powers malfunctioning or missing, one of their senses missing, bodies swapped with someone else, or so on. Just something that's incredibly inconvenient and frankly, a pain in the ass for the character.

Unfortunately the only way to be 'repaired' is to play by the AI's rules until you can 'afford' to get fixed. Though who's to say the AI, in it's imperfection, will actually succeed in the repair? You might fix one defect and end up with another. It's pretty high concept, but a neat twist on the whole experiment/curse angle from other games. It's no longer just a week of your character being annoyed. Now it's something they have to live with or try to fix.
