venting.

(Anonymous) 2011-12-23 12:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Slowly realizing how rude and dismissive some people are being because of this whole "possibly moving/moving to dw" conversation. I've had a few people on plurk straight out tell me to my face that anyone who is even considering moving is being unreasonable, dramatic, hot headed, or doing some sort of knee jerk reaction. No, I have not made a dramatic plurk or a plurk saying/having the contents of, "screw lj i'm leaving forever for precious dw!" or "lj sux bye!"

As someone who found an account of theirs set to automatic payments (luckily no money was withdrawn.) and then told, "you must have changed it at sometime." or "it must be a browser problem." has been the last straw for me. I do not care about the layout personally, but ignoring how people who have conditions that could be triggered by the layout needs to be considered. Also, yes, sometimes these little things like subject lines do make a difference.

I'm sick of seeing the amount of stanning LJ is getting by the same people it's being rude to and outright ignoring. LJ RP isn't all of LJ, but why should I be mocked when I am not happy with service I pay for? If I didn't like how my car insurance treated me, and I was privileged enough to switch, I would try to find one that suits my needs the most. I'm not telling you to leave with me or condemning you, I just rather not use a service that has not worked for me. If you find the changes fine, then that is great (not sarcastic.!) and I'm glad you can enjoy the new layout and its features.

Do not call me or my friends whiny bitches who are being dramatic for considering or have decided to move to DW. Yes, some people were a bit dramatic, but that's because LJ was very important to them. LJ has attachment to these people, and sometimes it's not easy to leave. RP will always have those few dramatic people, but for the most part people have been sane. Most people are NOT leaving because of the new layout looks ugly. While some would, it's rude to assume such things. The issue with subject titles is complicated, but assuming it's the root cause for all the anger, tension, etc. is just ignoring the past.

I never got mad at LJ for its DDoS attacks. I never blamed the Russian livejournal base and LJ itself. I never thought LJ preferred its Russian speaking base over its English speaking one. The fact is LJ has a different mission from what it originally started out as. This is totally okay, and I do not mind this! It's sad, but I am not angry LJ has done this. I am sad because it no longer fits in what I want and need.

This is why I want to move to DW and have started to. Now please stop making rude comments to me on plurk and in various mod posts that discuss moving to dw.

Hang in there, anon*! It's true that part of the LJRP population are people who would whine to no end for small things or those who would flounce one day and return with an innocent face the next day. However, saying that this whole situation is the same as past incidents is not being objective. If anyone would call me a bitch for leaving, I'd be happy to calmly list down and explain the reasons. No one did, though. (Thankfully? Not that I have many plurk friends :P)

It shouldn't even be a big problem that a friend decides to change journaling sites (for whatever reasons, even trivial reasons), so what that tells me is that they seem to be as emotionally invested in LJ as the ones moving to DW. We can only hope after emotions calm down people will be more open to listening and empathizing.

*or not anon, if you're who I think you are based on that second paragraph

oh, nony, i'm really sorry. :c

while i personally haven't been confronted this way about the move, i've definitely seen plurks telling others to calm down, that this change is nothing big or that we're overreacting. i beg to differ, if only because it was such a pain to my browser and downright unnavigable on my mobile (it's not a smartphone either, so you can imagine me trying to scroll pages and finding out that i couldn't browse through anything, much less find the information i needed to know wtf was going on). i'm glad there are people who have had no lasting problems with these changes, but there are a lot of us who've had to resort to work arounds just to use the site. not once did i see people threatening to drop--the one person who did warned us that if the layout didn't get any better, she wouldn't be able to rp because it literally doesn't work for her at all. most, if not all, were just considering the move and keeping their minds open to it.

i don't fault them for thinking this way but, to be honest, i'm a little annoyed with some of the responses i'm seeing from the opposing side of the argument.

tl;dr: come into my bosom '^'

Anon, you're very, very right, and I'm sorry people have been giving you and your friends a hard time for moving. I've yet to deal with those attitudes on leaving LJ, and pray I don't have to, but I hope that people will start to understand our motivation for moving here.

That's funny, because it's the other way round for me and other friends of mine. I.e. I've already had some "friends" harrassing me by saying that if I don't follow the to DW they're cutting off all ties with me and others, while rubbing on my face how super perfect and flawless DW is.

Doesn't mean your situation doesn't suck, though. Sheeesh, if you wanna go or stay, that's your decision and not theirs.

You have shitty friends, anon.

I wouldn't tell you to do that. I do want to move to do DW, because they've almost catered the site to things that a RPer or someone in fandom would want. Icon package issues notwithstanding, of course.

I've had friends who are wanting to move to IJ because of 100 free icons, and some of them have made it clear that it's IJ or bust for them if everyone have to move.

Pretty much this. I get that DW is a great place. I like it here too. But stop 'attacking' the ones who express some attachment to LJ or just want to keep playing there if it's convenient for them. You don't get to dictate how someone feels or what someone does.

It peeved me a lot to see two friends jump on a plurk linking a meme thread and saying that oh, they'd do it but the comment page is so ugly and why would anyone play there. It's fine to express your opinion. But this? This is also offensive to those that are playing there, including the person linking their thread.

As it is, I'm more irritated by the ones that are insisting that LJ is impossible to play in for aesthetic reasons than anything else. People have been triggered. They are having visually induced migraines. They cannot load anything. I understand if you don't want to play at LJ because it's different and 'uglier', but that does not make it impossible to do so.
