So for the 21st (#8) and 22nd (#4), there have been 56160 registrations in all. That's 1497 more than May 1st, 2001 (#1). Who knows how many new accounts there will be for the 23rd? Or for the rest of the year?

They're putting in an s2 commenting style at some point (which presently isn't something available to every account level), but no definitive about how that will be implemented (a stack-on to your journal style, a journal style itself, a checkbox, etc). But basically they're not taking back the default comments page as it is (except for likely bug fixes).
