rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. And most of those control issues come from being obsessed with winning.

I understand wanting to be in the loop OOCly on plots where the end goal is something that might be seriously uncomfortable or leave a character unplayable, but DWRPers pitch massive fits over something as simple as not being explicitly told that another character is lying.

Believe me, I know. Everywhere I go a cast forms. I DON'T WANT ONE. I've had to give up on rping Tales in games because of it.

Last I checked, The Vanishing of Ethan Carter was getting praise as being what Soul Suspect tried to be, though I haven't played it myself.

Man, if I wasn't afraid my laptop would spontaneously combust trying to run that game ...

I think a long-term con that seriously fucks with a character's head and leaves them "backed into a corner" (OP's words) is going to be something that's uncomfortable for a lot of people, though, and it definitely has the potential to render certain characters unplayable. It's not really the same thing as a one-off lie that doesn't actually affect the character beyond making them briefly look silly.

Yeah! I'd be interested in running a streamlined/non-stat version of the game on DW. I might consolidate everything a bit to allow some of the other villains to be played. Stuff like maybe having Maleficent takeing over Grimhilde's lands, or having organizations like the Elite Global Huntsmen's Club would totally exist, but the only guy I'd religiously mod-NPC/enforce as a part of it would be Muntz.

The only major change I was thinking was having DOOMTown/DOOMRoads become a thing again, after they were cut so early on. I think the DOOMRoads themselves could work well as a transportation thing, with it just not having stops in the more dangerous areas, Horned King and Elsa blatantly don't want Doom trying to make a tourist industry out of their places). Kinda solves the whole issue of getting from place to place in such a huge world, without having to force them into Atlantis the whole time. Plus, he could do the comms too. DOOMPhones!

Also, yes, panfandoms would be Disney AU'd if they got included. I sort of like the idea of trying to keep canons limited to strictly Disneys, but it'd be hard to draw up as much interest. So panfandoms would have to be kept to Disney rules, I think.

not to mention the potential for the plot to go awry if the manipulate character tries to manipulate someone and it doesn't work, when the mun would have gone along with it and helped them figure out something that might work if they'd only let the other player in on what they were trying to do.

like other people have been saying, not to be mean but i don't honestly know anyone in rp who is smarter enough to successfully predict what would be needed to manipulate a character they're canonblind to if they don't know the mun. i feel like to be successful, you'd have either be very familiar with the canon and be playing with a good version of the character who you could count on to be at least reasonably IC and not go off the rails and be good at interpreting the canon yourself so your predictions for the character's behavior weren't totally off-base... or you'd have to be playing with a player you knew really well and basing your manipulations more off of the player's weak points, habits, etc., than the character's.

the first thing is okay but unlikely to happen in dwrp, where most people bend characterization to do what they want. the second one is honestly a little bit creepy.

I've done the second (sort of) before in psls with consent. Before I start seriously running a story with someone I ask if they like surprises and what their triggers/things they aren't okay with are.

Once all that is established I go to town chessmastering their character into doing shit. I usually play a whole world's worth of characters, so they have no idea where the bad guy is.

In no particular order: Elsa, Henry, Roxas, Takakage, Raine, Trevor, York, Ken, Kyouko, America, Louise.

In this mythical pirate world, the only preexisting city is Isla Empieza. Once you set sail from the island it's located on, the world is your oyster! Where your ship goes, the islands it discovers, all of this is up to you. You have total control over the types of places you want your character to visit. As for why you're here, well, it seems Davy Jones is up to his old tricks. He's always looking for more unsuspecting sailors to drag down to his locker. You can blame him for pulling you into his chaotic world, and whatever curses befall this place? Those are also his fault. So off you go! Happy Sailing! (Oh, and watch out for the other pirates.)
