Chicken-fucking is not valid employment

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

I have no idea how sincere you're being (tone over text and all that) but... yeah, actually. This stupid sparklegender trend actually does hurt trans folk because it treats us like a game and gender like fashion accessory, and as a result it delegitimatizes our gender identity and the process (which is often long, confusing, painful, and exhausting) of actually discovering and accepting said identity.

It also makes an absolute mockery of the already painfully underresearched population of legitimately agender, bigender, or otherwise outside the gender binary people that already have a hard enough time finding resources and support without these idiotic children cluttering up their spaces.

yup, this. well said.

I had to look up what "sparklegender" meant, it was a term I had never heard before. I did not expect it to be such a loaded and derogatory term.

I expect it could actually hurt those who are in the midst of the "long, confusing, painful and exhausting" journey of self-discovery that you mentioned. When you're young (or an "idiotic child" as you put it) and you want to belong, but also feel unique. When you've been introduced to the concept of fluid gender and sexuality but you lack the maturity and experience to clarify it beyond, "uh I'm mostly heterosexual but a bit bi and one-quarter trans".

Projection is also a researched method of dealing with real-world anxiety. Like, for example, taking your favourite anime character and creating a headcanon that experiments with sexuality or gender.

I digress. You have the right to doubt the sincerity of a 30-something-member Tumblr blog that describes itself as "a safe place for people to post their gender, sexuality, and disability headcanons". I just feel that immediately assuming the worst of "idiotic children" is a poisonous attitude to take, and one that runs counter to your ideal of creating safe places for people to discover and accept their own gender identity.

If it still bothers you, why not ask the owner to include links to LGBT/disability resources and support sites in the sidebar or FAQ section?

lmfao are you really trying to defend the tumblr genderqueer community?

the 'being trans is a feel and anyone can know it' community?

the 'you should at least try to LBGT' community?

the 'today i came out to my parents as a straight person that doesn't like casual sex i'm so brave' community?

you're a moron.

It's more that I'm advocating a basic level of human empathy.

anon.

experimenting is fine. i did some experimenting with my identity when i was a kid. and kids are stupid. that doesn't mean that they're holy and blameless.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-11 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
They're not blameless, but at the same time it's unfair to immediately assume the worst.

If your concern is that disingenuous people make it harder for trans people to find valid resources and support structures to help them, I do not see how dropping slurs like "sparklegender" helps anyone or increases the legitimacy of your cause.

god i just love morality trolls

(Anonymous) 2015-03-12 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
It's ironic, given the topic of discussion, that you assume that I'm acting with malicious intention rather than just being mistaken or ill-informed.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-11 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
bunself is not a valid gender and it never fucking will bed, that isn't experimenting

(Anonymous) 2015-03-12 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Why do you not consider it "experimenting"?

7/10

You seemed sincere and got people to respond in kind, but 'sparklegender is a slur' is too obvious. Next time don't tip your hand so soon and you can keep going a lot longer.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-12 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
I actually can't believe that my post asking people not to assume the worst got two responses of people assuming the worst.

It also effectively shuts down the conversation too.

sparklegender is not a slur

(Anonymous) 2015-03-12 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
It's a derogatory term.

(Anonymous) 2015-03-12 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
for morons, yes
