Chicken-fucking is not valid employment

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Re: RYSLIG

Eh, to each their own. I, personally, don't find the road trips idea as fun, really. I find it cumbersome at times to have to spontaneously handwave travel and it being a tight fit and there not being much of an option to speed it up. The "has to take a full day" limits face-to-face CR and is why you typically don't have a lot of big, sprawling games to begin (without a network). Ryslig only works because of few actual locations close enough together and a network.

Basically, I can see both sides of this argument. It'd just be nice if there were a way or two to travel faster so your character doesn't lose a full day of possible interactions to traveling just so they can interact with other people, then ANOTHER full day traveling back. Buuuut that doesn't make the "instant travel" an invalid criticism in itself.

TLDR on this tangent is I wish there was a happy medium between the two.

I've been assuming that, since there are cars, there's been taxi services that run between Vandare and Bavan. The full day thing is on foot, walking. With top walking speeds of 9.0 km/h or 5.6 mph, I can see how it'd take all day. Especially if people walk slower than that.

With cars in the 1950's able to reach 60 mph or more, it would be way cut down. Suddenly an all day trip would only take a couple of hours, if that.

People are highly unlikely to be speedwalking the entire way, so the 3mph baseline of a human comfortable walk is probably a better measure. It is noteworthy that HORSES only travel at 4 mph at a walk so being in animal form will not greatly increase travel times on the ground without moving beyond a walk.

True, I don't even know really why I noted topline speed.

Maybe I just like the idea of people speedwalking down the roads...

with how eager some people are around here to do the ridiculous even when it doesn't make sense, i'd skip mentioning what the top walking speed is or they'll assume that a speed-walk is the baseline not the maxium. especially since people won't think their character might want to take breaks to rest now and again or have a meal or piss.

or go faster than a walk.

Oh god yeah. But imagine it. Speedwalkers.

It's like daywalkers only less cool.

Gotta walk fast.
