Too slow

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

she gets a bow and tries to learn it but it seems like a shoed in training aspect to me, like the author only wants her to have some extra talent to show the readers look! she's learning something!! it comes off as mary sue to me. i hardly believe anyone would follow her if a) she wasn't the main character or b) she didn't have some innate red god dragon soul. if the story wants to play up the "divine right to rule", whatever, but it's not my cup of tea to like literal deux ex characteristics. the points where she's trying to be a leader are sloppy. it's like trying to get the audience believe that a sexist ancient society would follow her empathetic speeches.

there's another problem with the story. no male character can be better than hak and no female character can be better than yona. hak outperforms everyone in strength, snark, and cunning, and yona outpreforms everyone in kindness and resolve. her move from princess to fugitive is rushed. she cannot negatively be portrayed a brat, ever, because the narrative says that whining trait must be shown as endearing and innocent. besides some added angst, she seems exactly the same as she was as a princess.

if you want a much better story in which a royal person learns to cope with the new peasant life in a much more well-told story, watch Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit. downside is that it's not shoujo, but they play out the action, political intrigue, and character development and training so much better.

Flatviewer here going to preface by saying I do enjoy AnY as a self indulgent series. It's a fun show that you don't have to think about, although I like the villain's team more than our heroine's. But if you're comparing it to Moribito it's going to fall short in almost all categories. Save for romance. Moribito doesn't have a romance, just a hint of unrequited love from a side character. :/ Moribito does everything else beautifully. I've watched it four times!! Definitely a favorite. The characters all get development, there is soooo much worldbuilding, nuances to the plot, deep themes, and the acting is phenomenal. Even the dub! Highly recommend it.
