I was considering apping to the game when endgame was announced, and decided to hold off until I knew what was going on with some irl things. And I am sad that nothing even appears to be happening. Is there even a point to apping in now?

only if you have some specific CR you want to wrap up, and even then I'd hold off until we finally get some kind of actual real endgame announcement (that isn't one more in a long and frustrating FOUR MONTHS LONG train of false starts)
