Key posted the results for the Angel Beats! 1st beat popularity poll on Twitter as Sekine and Irie (orange-haired girl and purple-haired girl respectively from Girls Dead Monster). Here are the results:

11th Place with 1,791 votes: Hisako
10th Place with 2,238 votes: Shiori Sekine
9th Place with 2,535 votes: Shiina
8th Place with 2,841 votes: Yuzuru Otonashi (Funny thing: In-universe, Sekine says all those votes that went to Otonashi were placed by Naoi.)
7th Place with 4,980 votes: Miyuki Irie
6th Place with 5,586 votes: Yusa
5th Place with 5,667 votes: Yui
4th Place with 7,476 votes: Masami Iwasawa
3rd Place with 8,172 votes: Yuri Nakamura
2nd Place with 10,767 votes: Kanade Tachibana/Angel
1st Place with 19,116 votes: Matsushita

Though, note that most of the votes for Matsushita were illegitimate (he actually got somewhere around 1,128 votes, I believe) so he's been disqualified.

The real winner of the poll is Kanade with the most frequently requested costume (or lack of thereof) for her is of her naked. So if you pre-ordered 1st beat, expect a print of a naked Kanade to be included with your copy.

TBH, I'm a little disappointed by the results (save for Yusa making it to 6th place) since there were some male characters I liked who never made it to the top 10. Since there weren't any pre-order bonuses for the guys unlike the girls despite them getting their own routes, I was hoping there was a chance for at least one of them to win. Hell, even a naked Matsushita in all his bara glory would have been amazing.

At the same time, I kind of expected it considering the marketing and the fact that AB! is a bishoujo series aimed at straight men. There was no way in hell the male cast would have stood a chance and the fact that Otonashi made it to 8th place is a feat in itself.

Key hinted they might be making another popularity poll in the future, so hopefully the next one Key will consider separating the results by "Most Popular Female Characters" and "Most Popular Male Characters" to make things slightly more fair.

Wow, they dare to pull a "Naoi's being gay for Otonashi again" joke yet they have the audacity to not let Naoi himself into the top 10? Unacceptable.

Seriously though, gotta also agree the results are disappointing. Kanade is okay to me, but let's be real, do we really need another tokuten/pre-order bonus drawing of Kanade naked when Na-Ga's drawn her like that in two tokuten/pre-order bonus pictures already (NSFW):

If this poll was supposed to be a campaign to have a fan favorite drawn in some fanservice-y outfit as a tokuten, Visual Arts/Key should have automatically disqualified the characters who already were included in the tokuten line-up prior to the poll.

Also, I agree that it's sad that none of the guys except Otonashi didn't make it to the top 10. They probably would have stood a chance if Key tried to market the game beyond "sexy teenage girls naked" in an attempt to draw in new blood (e.g. the BL fandom for example since interviews state it's possible for Otonashi to romance the guys), but yeah.

Actually, no one is sure if the guys are actually romanceable or not. We do know Otonashi can develop feelings towards the other guys based on the player's choices* (assuming that's not a joke), but it's not clear if it's possible for those feelings to be returned.

And assuming Otonashi can legit romance certain guys in the game? I would not be surprised if the writers conveniently made it impossible to pursue a route with Naoi at all or if his route was basically him crushing on Otonashi and getting cockblocked over it.

tbh I'm more impressed by Key continuously finding new ways to insert gags about Naoi's fanboying/crush (however you wish to interpret it) towards Otonashi for five years straight

is it me or are the jokes about naoi being gay for otonashi getting old at this point and i a say this as someone who isn't a huge fan of the character

i mean, i don't mind if they make a joke about naoi's crush/fanboying every now and then but surely there must be something else about naoi's character key can joke about beyond "oh hey naoi really likes otonashi while the latter gives him a deadpan look every time! hilarious!"
