Personally I would feel a little odd contacting the mods about plot if I haven't been accepted yet.

After certainly, and maybe this is something they'll address when they have all apps processed.

So compromise and contact them about what plot you can get involved in, as someone coming in later? You guys really are doing a lot of hand-wringing over nothing. I doubt the mods are just going to "abandon" everyone who didn't get in quick enough and not let them do anything at all.
