Rundown:
rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.
Rules:
Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

TOKYO GHOUL

(Anonymous) 2015-01-28 08:45 am (UTC)(link)i think part of it is that we spent the entire first manga with the ghouls and very little with the ccg, and the most relateable ccg characters (or the ones who received focus) are dead/MIA. unlike the ghouls, whose secrets we were meant to learn more about as kaneki descended deeper into the web of ghoul secrets, the ccg are an enigmatic force that identifies as a unit (as opposed to ghouls, as the first series hammered in how different each ghoul was) and whose secrets the mangaka doesn't necessarily want us to know.
for the most part i've found it difficult to invest myself in the ccg because nearly every character outside the q's is either a static stock character (such as hanami) or too enigmatic for us to learn about just yet; it's like staring at a wall. i think all the time spent on enigma and not enough time spent on enticing the audience makes the ccg side less interesting; we already know they're up to no good behind the scenes, and we've known that for awhile, so there haven't really been a lot of new reveals on that front.
and unlike the first manga, where kaneki was motivated to learn more/know, haise currently prefers being locked out of the ccg's secrets because he wants to preserve equilibrium/doesn't want to lose the identity he has now. sure, he may not be happy, but as a character he's become much more passive despite having more resources he could potentially look into (even if not legally). kaneki (both kuroneki and shironeki) in the first manga may have been a victim of fate and unable to accomplish all that he wanted, but at the very least he was very proactive in trying to drive the story, which yielded various twists and turns. as haise is more passive, we've so far been moved along from case to case without much activity on haise's front, even though he obviously has emotional turmoil going for him; in short, haise's story has been a very, very slow build, which is a bit jarring after coming from the first series wherein so much was happening whether kaneki wanted it or not (which forced him to take action, and made him a proactive character).
and this is just me personally, but i haven't really gotten invested in any of the q's yet, really. one or two of them i have a slight curiosity about, but not much else. i'm not sure what it is about them that doesn't hook me, though, so i can't say much on that front.
