I think I finally figured out what bugs me about this game and why I keep finding it boring: it's been nothing but a "here, this happened! now react!" sequence of events so far. There aren't even any events that do anything to further the characters' development or CR; events are literally nothing more than reacting to the latest discovery by the NPCs/player characters. I even don't mind world building but goddamn there are no stakes here. Maybe my character is just too apathetic to play in this game because they--and then by extension me--don't care about this shit.

This game is based on emotions! There's so many things to do with that, mods! Things besides weather or blackouts! Give me an event that messes with the characters' emotions and that leads them to some world building discoveries! Or how about a crisis where the crystals act wonky that leads to them discovering their secrets! ANYTHING but "here is a log, react"! The potential continues to be wasted and it makes me sad!

Okay sorry I needed to whine. I want to really like this game and I like the CR and people here but I'm starting to be frustrated by the amount of potential in the premise I can see and how it continues to not be used. :(

They have done an event with emotion switching, that was back in September. I wouldn't be surprised if whatever happens on the night of selenium that's coming up (24th!) does something similar. Maybe linking it back to the Arehtei again, but something that plays with emotions or acts on them seems fitting for a night to remember the dead.

But since the game is supposed to be big on adventure too, I doubt that kind of event is going to be the majority at any time. Most major discoveries probably will be made by stuff like the expedition, and the group that followed-up and went there again to make sure they hadn't left anything uncovered.

The game is also barely half a year old, anon, and a lot of that time has been spent struggling with brand-new-game-syndrome and then the holidays on top of that. We've had issues with people apping and dropping too quickly to make a real difference, talk of flakes and cliques, and I personally was noticing that people would plan CR oocly and then never follow through. There just hasn't been the time or player power to turn this into the Game of All Things yet. Personally, I'm sort of glad things are starting off slowly and with world building. I'd hate to have wasted some really good emotional events, given what the atmosphere of the game was like in the beginning.

Having played in the head mod's last game, though, I know for a fact that she is absolutely gleeful over player plots. In Emp, she's already been A-ok with people sending fire tornados through the residential area and characters who can turn into monsters smashing people up. If you pitch any of your ideas to her, I'm sure she'll be happy to run with them, or let you manage plots yourself.

I've never really been in a game where the mod posts have been this in depth and had OOC and IC documentation to the level this one does. It can be a lot to read through, but I like the amount of world building being done here.
