I really like intensely loyal servant dynamics, the more domestic the better. Doubly so with alien/monstrous/demonic/whatever beings rather than humans, but I'll take what I can get. However, I'm not getting within a mile of Kuroshitsuji's whole underage fanservice thing.

Anyone have any recs for me? I'll take live action, western animation, anime, books...video games are okay too but of course it's a coin flip whether I have that particular console. Don't care about genders involved or whether the source material is 100% gen or not (unless someone's underage, in which case it does need to be gen and free of fanservice).

Rem and Misa were pretty much the only reason I liked Death Note back in the day.

advice time if you please!

i have this rp partner that used to be very enthusiastic about our threads and tag back rocket fast. now, i'm lucky if i get a tag once in a while while she's off playing with her new partner. it's not the first time an rp partner has moved on from a pairing and it's a psl so, okay. cool. i mean it does suck a little but i'll get over it.

but i've asked her if she'd rather stop playing or if i'm bothering her by tagging her in threads but she insists i'm not and they're her favorites. again, okay. i have stopped tagging her directly in memes and such and wrapped up the couple threads we had going only for her to tag me with fresh things only to ignore them. should i ask her again if there's something i can do to help her have fun with our stuff? as it is now, i don't think she is, i think she's just being polite. should i just quietly drop our things? i'm afraid that would be awkward if she sees me still playing around on memes though. she could just be having some difficult times irl or just feeling burned out, but i'm still not entirely certain what the least buggy way is to go about things. i feel for her, but it also sucks to be enthusiastic about threads she initiates and then rarely get a tag for them. i also don't want to be mean to her either. how would you guys handle this?

'they're her favorites' is being polite, i'm sure, but that she tags anew...could be she doesn't want to let go of you yet, while knowing she 'must' (interests shift, a new thread partner is an exciting unknown). worrying about making her feel awkward for seeing your character tag around is a tad silly, though.

i'd send her a message. something like, 'hey, i've noticed things have dropped off a bit in our threads. is something going on?' and if she replies with vague reassurance i'd tell her it's annoying to have threads stop after one reply and if she really wants to continue, it should go somewhere. harsh, yes, but if it turns out to be a temporary slow down, i could apologize (and sincerely). it could also be the push that stops her from leading me on.

you could say this about any self-diagnosed mental disorder, though. it's not a trend, it's literally been going on for years and it's a big problem. it's not bpd or "happening just now" exclusive by any means. tumblr fosters that sort of ridiculous behavior so that's what you get.

as someone with multiple (professionally diagnosed) mental illnesses, all i can say is good luck in the real world to the tumblrite generation. it doesn't bend over backwards for the people who legitimately DO have these disorders and it ain't gonna bend over backwards for their special rainbowsexual transdisabled self-diagnosed identity either.

fuck I am so angry with myself with how fucking slow I am with tagging even with threads I love

I just have such a hard time getting the words down how I want even when I have a decent idea of what I want to say and then I agonize about my tags being too short for how long I've made people wait for them so I get stuck on trying to make them longer

seriously does anyone have any advice or strategies on getting past this kind of shit because it's so frustrating and discouraging to feel like I'm stuck in backtag hell and never making any progress and that people I love to RP with are slowly ditching me for faster friends

one word: commit.

if the short tag feels right, or hell even if it doesn't and you can't think of anything else to say, just send it out. don't even think about it not being good enough, long enough what have you - just hit post. do the same with the next comment and get some initiative rolling.

just do it. this seems self-explanatory but i've spoken to a lot of people with the same issue and it always boils down to endless handwringing over sending out tags. just do it, just get it over with, and put yourself in that tagging mindset so that when it DOES start to come more easily, you can start throwing in more details and whatnot as you please.

tag now. worry later. just do it!

Why is it in smut RP a virgin character is automatically expected to be shy or unenthusiastic? I write a character who certainly knows what they want sexually and would be completely enthusiastic about doing the do, but just hasn't had a chance to do so for canon reasons.

It seems like a character either has to be monk like or a raging bundle of hormones going by the usual patterns here.

I used to have a friend who was really in to this obscure fandom with me, but we don't talk anymore. Lately I've been finding a lot of things that are funny or would be interesting to talk to someone about that relate to that fandom... And it sucks because now I don't have anyone to fangirl with.

I need some general rp advice, anons, if you have a moment to spare.

In general I'm a pretty good rper, at least good enough that I don't get a ton of crit and when I do, it's good points that I do my best to implement. I have a ton of CR and I'm consistent with tagging back.

But nobody ever tags my starters. I usually put up top comments and then I'll tag around elsewhere, and part of it is that I tag around so much that there's not a ton of people left to tag my starters... but at the same time, it's maybe one or two muns that will tag my starters, if that. Usually I'm the one coming to everybody else.

So it's left me thinking that I'm just really shitty at writing out top comments. I hear all the time about putting in good hooks and offering good things for people to react to, but sometimes that's a little vague.

So help an anon out: what about a starter makes you want to tag it? What do you consider a good hook and what do you consider a worthwhile starter? What makes you decide to tag something upon reading that starter?

Any advice would be helpful... I'm tired of being a let-down in this department and I want to get better!

TBH it's 80% 'because I want CR with this character' and 20% 'this is directly relevant to my character and/or I can think of a funny response'.

RPers are lazy. If you're tagging out a lot, probably most of the people who want threads with you already have it! Don't discount that explanation, especially since if it's a pattern for you, other people will assume consciously or unconsciously that they don't need to put the effort into tagging you. And they probably love how proactive you are along with your other qualities.

That said, starters are a tricky beast, too, because as much as everyone derides the classic 'come bother Muse McGee, who is going about his own business', it's pretty hard in a game setting with solid continuity to come up with something your character would plausibly/ICly say to *anybody* they'd meet, and it's harder to give advice without knowing what you're writing now, but: your character visibly doing something embarrassing or difficult is easy to tag in to, because jerks can make fun of them and nice people can offer to help. Think of the kind of things that give obvious reasons to meddle or join in. Set something on fire, on purpose or on accident. Get drunk and sing loudly. Destroy an object in a temper. If you have a social character, capitalize on it and have them ask forward open-ended questions - not random philosophical ones, but specific things like did you get through [last event] okay? People like to talk about themselves.

Those are some ideas. But TBH if you've got people who are willing and able to give you useful crit and have done so in the past, and nobody has mentioned an endemic blandness of starters, probably you're fine and it's not your fault.
