i agree that if you're running around washington screaming about lizard people you have a problem, but if you avoid going camping in the forest at night because you're scared by stories of skinwalkers, or if you believe in ghosts or aliens, who gives a shit?

i see no difference between those two examples

doesn't matter if it's real or not you're identifying with the characters in the moment and sometimes that sticks for a while the same way you'll get stuck feeling any other emotion after consuming fiction now and then

a lot of it is instinctual shit too or your brain not being able to process something in a rational way even if you know it's a movie

idk man they're called scary movies for a reason but i can promise you hardly anyone is running around afterwards thinking a ghost is after them like they might still be a little creeped out because of the biochemical reaction they had to the stuff in the movie but they're not scared of shit they know isn't real

i don't want the rational adult part to take over because i like being scared and that's the entire reason i suspended my disbelief and watched the scary movie to begin with

you watch the movie to get scared that is the entire point why would you ruin that by trying to be rational instead of just letting yourself get swept away in the emotion that you wanted to experience
