I want to play from SEED/Destiny but I'm too afraid to because of the shitty reputation of those shows.

I really wanna take on Nicol or someone but I always shy away from it due to the stigma surrounding SEED.

nicol was cool so at least you have good taste ~~i hear he liked to play the piano~~

just be honest that the canon is, uh, problematic, anon. SEED ain't great but plenty of people play from plenty of less than stellar canons and do just fine. acknowledge the show has flaws, don't make apologies for those flaws in your narrative, and it's all gravy. i play a character from a fandom that has a really, really bad reputation, but i make a point of poking fun at him a lot. having a sense of humor about it definitely makes things easier.

tbh a lot of the problems SEED has stems from kira and his stupid amounts of plot armor. not many play him that i've seen and said plot armor is negated by most game settings anyway so you should be fine.

I think the hatred for SEED has mostly blown over, anon.

AGE has sort of taken it's place as the UC purists go-to attack target.

AGE was really bad, though. And I like the AU Gundams.

But it was still bad.

So few people watched AGE that it will never replace Destiny as the genre's punching bag.

and I'm sure some other AU will come out to draw the haters ire and people will forget why they were mad in the first place. It just might take a bit longer this time because Reconguista may as well be an AU, but Tomino is involved so the UC purists won't raise a stink about it even if it's even worse than AGE.

UC purists hate Unicorn, though, and it's still part of UC. /m/ has ridiculously convoluted arguments about this even now, to the point of claiming it's not canon. Hell, someone's doing it here, too.

I don't think it matters what reputation an entry has. As another anon mentioned, most of DWRP hasn't seen and/or doesn't care about Gundam, so Nicol would as well as anyone else in a game.

Most RPers don't know SEED/Destiny's reputation on the 4chan/AnimeSuki/MAL circuit. You'll be fine.

The shitty rep is there and fully deserved, but don't let it stop you. Good players will understand that just because you app from a bad canon doesn't mean you will be bad too.

Hell, Super Robot Wars makes "let's fix Destiny and make its plot less dumb somehow" its main past time. I mean the video games, not the DWRP. Though they did it too.

If people can get away with playing from Aldonah or fucking Valvrave, It's fine for you to play from SEED.

SEED is way better than both those shows.

did anyone play from Valvrave, ever? I was under impression all potential players went "lol nope" after ep 10, and the whole of second season only cemented the deal

they're all pretty bad, anon, you're setting the bar low there

that and i don't know of anyone who stuck with their valvrave muses after the Thing happened

most of us are well aware of the show's rep, but rping can be fun as hell regardless. destiny especially is a pile of questionable decisions. like with anything rped from, taking the characters into your own hands generally improves things exponentially.

also i'd love to see nicol or whomever, tbh!
