Is now a bad time to app in? I saw there's a bunch of mirror barge stuff going on, and it honestly looks kinda overwhelming.

Honestly, yes. I have just kind of checked out because I can't keep up with anything that's going on, and I can't imagine a new player/character would have it any easier. Wait until November.

yeahhhh this is a time that's really focused on developing and furthering existing CR, and it would be chaotic as shit for a new player. Not to mention you wouldn't get welcomed like you should be because people are really busy with it.

Don't take this to mean we don't want you - we do!!! I hope we can see you in November.

Mirror barge is a huge event and you don't get much out of it if your character has no cr ties. It's best to wait until it's over.

I'm already in the game and I'm waiting to app a new character until mirror barge ends for the same reason. Definitely encourage you to app right after though! :)

I'm not bringing my new character until November. It's hard to keep up with the one I have now. But I'm loving every second of it!

What's the pace like usually? Is it backtag-friendly?

I find that really depends on the player. The game can move pretty fast (although it's much faster than usual because of the event), and a lot of players do tend to either officially or unofficially have two-week rules for less important/casual threads (myself included) and I personally don't have much patience for game threads that go at, say, a tag a week, unless it's really entertaining or critical or if there are some extenuating circumstances.

I know for a fact there are also some threads from like June that are still being tagged by other players, though, so I definitely do not speak for the group here.

Like anon above me said, it really depends on the player. I'm used to very backtag-heavy games and found my threads being dropped here if I skipped a day or two of tagging, but just by certain people. Others seem more than happy to keep backtagging for months, though of course their more current threads get priority. You just need to find the players whose speed meshes with yours.

As for general pace, before the Mirror event (this is my first encounter with this mechanic; I'm fairly new), I could get away with checking the comms every 2-3 days and not miss anything important/relevant to me. People tend to post a lot, but I'd say about a third are locked posts or geared toward very specific characters. So it's not as fast as it may appear.

You really make your own pace, as you can see from the two replies you got. What I usually do is do a round of tag ins and then not tag anything new until tags from these threads slow down.

For me, I'm usually getting about 10 to 15 tags a day when I clean my inbox daily and I only have one character. When I make new posts, that can go up to 20 or so. But I pretty much throw my muse at everyone.

It depends on who you backtag with. I've found a lot of players who are okay with backtags for up to a month if the thread is really interesting. Everyone's good about handwaving if you need to wrap something and get into more current things, so it's not like you'll be stuck playing with only a small group of people if you're a slow tagger.
