i think the best thing the first anime ever did for masamune, even more than motorhorse, was give him the four date subordinate characters. they really helped you believe that he's some charismatic leader.

it wasn't until they were absent in judge end that i realized how much of a friendless loser he seems without them. now he comes off as just a socially awkward guy who only hangs out with kojuro and beats off to the idea of his next fight with yukimura.
