Does my cardigan look okay?

Rundown: [community profile] rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

Rules:

Do not post pornographic or shocking images.
Do not share private entries, plurks, chat logs, etc.
Do not use this community as your social/political/hatespeech soapbox.
Do not be redundant. One page does not need three or more threads on one topic/theme.
Do not treat this comm like your personal Plurk or Twitter. Off-topic happens, but it should be open for discussion and not just a play-by-play of your life. No one cares.

Wow, anon. First of all, breathe.

Secondly, I stated it doesn't bother me that much. I do think it's a poor choice to make. I'm not leaving the game over it, but I do think it's a point against it. Yes, it does eliminate reserve wank. But it's a courtesy for new players and not the players in the game. It's always better to prioritize your own players. Maybe they'll be shitty and bitch about x reserving y and yes, that's terrible.

But maybe they'll also tell you about their past experiences with a player that a mod would NEVER KNOW ABOUT and empower the mods to act accordingly. The onus was on the mods to smartly handle this information and react accordingly. Instead, new players are the ones who are given the protection while existing players just have to kind of hope that the person who reserved Joe Somebody from some random canon is going to be good and IC, because how do we even know that the mods know the canon well enough to recognize something pretty blatantly ooc? (This also ties into why I think app screening is also a bad idea, but I won't get into that. I went into the game knowing about that.)

Besides that, there's a nice perk to open reserves if only because you can interact with future castmates on an ooc level. While we do have a test drive, it's meaningless because we don't know if the Joe Somebody who played in it will be the one who reserves and apps. I won't get into the stupid argument of test drivers being entitled to reserves/app. But regardless, we don't have the opportunity to share our excitement with reserving players, find out what angle they're coming in with, and helping them into the apping process with friendly and welcoming discussion.

What we have works, yes. It's fine. It doesn't bother me that much, but I think it's a shame that the mods so easily capitulated to one request when in the first round we had all been fairly comfortable with how the reserves had been done, except for a small minority who disliked that.
