(Anonymous) 2014-09-26 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
some are definitely better than others, but overall yes

(Anonymous) 2014-09-26 01:47 am (UTC)(link)
I heard the bad endings are hilarious

(Anonymous) 2014-09-26 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
they stopped doing the funny endings. it makes me sad

i think people who are used to console games are a lot less impressed by them, because they're produced by a tiny company with a limited budget and aren't nearly as extensive as a lot of video games out there. the graphics have gotten a lot better as the series goes on, but they're still just point and click games, with limited explore areas and only 5-6 characters (plus a few over-the-phone characters) in each. i think they're a lot of fun and worth the twenty bucks a pop they sell for, but they are pretty basic as far as games go.

+1

video game nerds either ignore or despise these game

(Anonymous) 2014-09-26 01:40 am (UTC)(link)

(Anonymous) 2014-09-26 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
i want to play one of these, but i'm not sure which one since there are so many. what would you nancy drew anons recommend? (the spookier the better)

(Anonymous) 2014-09-26 03:05 am (UTC)(link)
i haven't even come close to playing them all, but based on the ones i have played:

ghost of thornton hall is hailed as the scariest one, but i found the prevailing emotion of the game to be sad rather than scary. still, it is pretty creepy, and has a few jump scares if you're into that. it's also my favorite of the games; i really love it.

the spookiest is shadows at the water's edge imho. there are a couple jump scare scenes, but the atmospherics around the inn where it takes place are done really well. there was one scene in particular where i had to pause it and catch my breath based on music and sound effects alone (but i am a huge, huge wuss when it comes to scary computer games, so that might have just been me being me).

i remember curse of blackmoor manor creeping me out, but i haven't played it in years and years.

thanks a lot! i can't wait to try them out. i haven't played many point-and-click games so this will be a fresh experience.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-26 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
afterwards you should come back and tell anons what you think!

(Anonymous) 2014-09-27 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
everything about thornton hall is fucking heartbreaking.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-26 03:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Agreeing with the above anon that Shadow at the Water's Edge and Ghost of Thornton Hall are good.

It's been too long for me to remember much about Curse of Blackmoor Manor but I also remember liking The Captive Curse.

me, when it hits stores

how did anons feel about the last one (shattered medallion)? i'm part of the minority that liked it fine, but a lot of that was probably because i've loved sonny joon ever since he was just this guy who left doodles and notebooks everywhere, and i was happy he finally appeared in person

(Anonymous) 2014-09-26 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably waiting a while for that one. There's still a few of the more recent ones I haven't finished or gotten yet.

i'm playing treasure in the royal tower for the first time in like ten years and it's all your fault

(Anonymous) 2014-09-27 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
good choice

i stan hard for marie antoinette so it's one of my favorites

(Anonymous) 2014-09-27 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
That was one of my early favorites and I played it a few times back then. Maybe, I'll do the same sometime!

(Anonymous) 2014-09-27 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
i just quit for the night but one thing i'm noticing so far is the lack of puzzle after puzzle that just feel like busywork. i like it.
