Uwah so sorry for this page topper!
Rundown:
rpanons is an anonymous community for role-play related topics. This place serves as a forum for game discussions, canon discussions, RP solicitations (ATP, game ads, open memes), and advice. The occasional off topic comment is inevitable, but please keep heated social and political topics to their respective communities. Posting them here will only get them frozen. Subsequent threads made to bypass a freeze will then be deleted.

ALSO read Phantom Bullet before the anime premiered and was super stoked for the action since it's a step up from the past arcs. It's a fun story and I'm loving it.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-05 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)The action in PB is pretty good! I can't take Darth Vader Dramatically Waving A Gun seriously but Sinon makes up for it.

Basically it fills in all the gaps. You get to see how Kirito and Asuna first met and their first interaction together. It really strengthens the characterizations because the anime and the original novels are sorta all over the place? They build up more realistically and all. Some of Progressive was actually used in the anime (the first floor boss fight for example) so that it didn't seem like you were jumping into an anime that was almost already over.
http://www.mangapanda.com/sword-art-online-progressive You can read the manga here which follows the Progressive novel almost perfectly. The translation dudes are really slow, sadly, but you still get the entire first novel in manga form. Progressive happens to be my favorite version of Kirito anyways. It plays up on him being a troll and dork that tries to be a cool rpg hero rather than focusing on him being so goddamn self-loathing all the time.
But yes, Sinon being badass and Kirito trolling dudes as a girly avatar makes up for Darth Vader.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-05 05:11 pm (UTC)(link)So, from what you're saying, it's pretty much incorporating the side stories into the novel itself and possibly adding new ones? I remember reading Kirito and Asuna's first meeting and the first floor boss fight quite a while ago, actually, so unless that was Progressive being released back then I'm guessing it's a mix of old and new material put together in a more organized fashion.
Thanks for the link to the manga! I'm pretty much drowning in side stories again now that I'm trying to sink my teeth back into this fandom so I might cheat and flip through it...

And no sweat, the manga is hilarious and fun. That's where I grab all my icons because I love how the artist draws Kirito in Progressive.
Get back into the fandom, anon. It's always fun to tag castmates. I was late to this series all the rp'ers had already faded away.

(Anonymous) 2014-09-05 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)Those are some pretty A+ (and sassy) expressions you've got there, approval.
And I'm sure there will be a resurgence once this season reaches the halfway point/is over! Those who have ragequit have long since ragequit so expect new blood, pretty much (like everyone I know has ragequit this series it's lonely here).

That's all that matters! Good luck, anon!

The original novel covers the first day (episode 1 of the anime) and then immediately skips to the 70-something floor: the scene where Kirito kills that rare rabbit and asks Asuna to cook it.
After the success of the original novel, the author wrote a whole bunch of side-stories that filled in the time skip: stories like Red-Nosed Reindeer (introduced Sachi), Beater (Kirito meets Asuna, 1st floor boss battle) and The Black Swordsman (introduced Silica). "The Girl of Morning Dew", which introduces Yui, was also one of these side-stories.
So when the anime was greenlighted, they decided to put all of these stories in chronological order as part of the overall Aincread arc. Afterwards, as a result of the anime's popularity, Progressive was created; essentially doing what the anime did and retelling the original arc but with all of the additional stories and information created after the first novel.
